Full List: Winners At 2026 NBA Elections

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has announced the winners of the 2026 NBA national elections following the conclusion of voting and collation of results.

Earlier, TVC News reported that Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, was elected the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association after defeating two other senior lawyers in the keenly contested presidential race.

The Chairman of the ECNBA, Aham Ejelam (SAN), declared the results at the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja.

Badejo-Okusanya secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast, to defeat Lateef Akangbe (SAN), who polled 7,934 votes (30.39 per cent), while Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN) garnered 5,855 votes (22.43 per cent).

With the victory, Badejo-Okusanya will serve as president of the association for a two-year term from 2026 to 2028, becoming only the second woman to occupy the office after Priscilla Kuye, who led the NBA between 1991 and 1992.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has congratulated Omoniyi Ibietan on his re-election as Secretary-General of the African Public Relations Association, describing it as a recognition of his professionalism, dedication and contributions to the public relations profession across the continent.

Ibietan was re-elected during the APRA General Assembly held in Swakopmund, Namibia, alongside Mr Arik Karani of Kenya, who emerged as President, and Prof. Michele Mekeme of Cameroon, who was elected Vice-President.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim, the minister said the outcome of the election reflected the confidence reposed in Ibietan by public relations professionals across Africa.

“On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, I congratulate Dr Omoniyi Ibietan on his well-deserved re-election as Secretary General of APRA. This honour is not only a recognition of his professional excellence but also a source of pride for Nigeria and the entire communications community,” the statement quoted Idris as saying.

He noted that Ibietan’s re-election was a testament to his leadership and capacity to advance the vision of the association. The minister expressed confidence that the APRA secretary-general would continue to provide purposeful leadership as the association strengthens collaboration among communication professionals on the continent.

“Dr Ibietan’s re-election reflects the confidence that public relations professionals across Africa have in his leadership and in his capacity to advance the Association’s vision,” the statement read.

Idris also said he was optimistic that Ibietan would continue to support APRA’s efforts to promote ethical communication and contribute to Africa’s digital transformation agenda.

The minister further commended APRA for its commitment to strengthening the public relations profession and promoting ethical communication across Africa.

He added that Nigeria was looking forward to hosting the 37th APRA Annual Conference alongside the World Public Relations Forum in Abuja later this year.

Founded in 1975, the African Public Relations Association is the umbrella body for public relations practitioners across Africa.

The association promotes professional excellence, ethical communication and collaboration among communication professionals while advancing the role of strategic communication in the continent’s development.

According to results published on the ECNBA election portal and confirmed by Ejelam, 26,184 of the association’s 82,172 registered voters participated in the exercise, representing a voter turnout of 31.86 per cent.
