Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has emerged as the new Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), succeeding Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio.

The leadership change was announced at the ECOWAS Authority meeting, where President Faye formally took over the rotating chairmanship of the regional bloc.

Meanwhile, Biram Diop has been appointed President of the ECOWAS Commission, succeeding Dr. Omar Alieu Touray in the role.
