Andy Burnham Officially Becomes UK Prime Minister

Andy Burnham has officially become the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after being invited by King Charles III to form a new government, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

In a statement, the Palace said the King received Burnham in audience and requested him to form a new administration.

“The Rt Hon Andrew Burnham MP accepted The King’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury,” the statement said.

Buckingham Palace also confirmed that Ms Marie-France van Heel was received by the King.

Burnham arrived at Buckingham Palace shortly after the resignation of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Following his audience with the King, he left the Palace and headed to 10 Downing Street, where he is expected to begin forming his Cabinet and outline the priorities of his new administration.
