The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to use alternative routes as emergency responders continue rescue and recovery operations following two separate crashes at Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Friday.
The first crash occurred at about 12:05 a.m. on the outbound carriageway towards Ibadan, involving five articulated trucks and a Toyota Sienna.
According to the FRSC, preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was caused by speeding and loss of control.
Seven adult males were involved in the incident. One person died, another sustained injuries, while five others escaped unhurt. The agency said the deceased’s body remains trapped beneath one of the heavily loaded trucks, with heavy-duty recovery equipment required for evacuation.

While rescue operations were underway, a second crash occurred at about 3:15 a.m. on the inbound carriageway towards Lagos.
The lone crash involved a Mazda commercial bus and was attributed to brake failure. The driver sustained serious injuries and was rescued by FRSC personnel before being taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre for treatment.
The FRSC said its rescue teams, alongside the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency responders, are working to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.
Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, sympathised with the families of the victims and appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials.
The corps advised motorists travelling towards Ibadan to divert through the Ikorodu-Sagamu route, while those heading into Lagos should consider the Lekki-Epe Expressway or the Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressway until recovery operations at the Kara-Ojodu Berger corridor are completed.

The FRSC also urged drivers, particularly operators of articulated vehicles and commercial buses, to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, pay close attention to braking systems, avoid unnecessary night journeys, reduce speed in poor visibility, and rest when fatigued to minimise the risk of crashes.
