At least four people lost their lives while several others were injured in a serious road accident on Sunday along the Lokoja-Ajaokuta highway in Kogi State.

The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Tenimu Etuku, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday.

He said the crash involved an 18-seater Toyota commercial bus and occurred at Jimgbe Community in Ajaokuta Local Government Area.

According to Etuku, FRSC personnel quickly responded, rescuing the injured and taking them to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the four deceased were deposited at the hospital morgue.

Etuku provided further details, noting that “The 18-seater bus with Abuja registration number ABC 232 XA was heading to Abuja from Enugu before the sad incident.”

He explained that the driver, in a bid to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming truck, collided with a faulty stationary truck instead.

Describing the accident as “very unfortunate,” the sector commander urged all motorists to exercise caution, emphasizing that while roads may be open, they are not always safe.

“This is because there is a big difference between a free motoring environment and a safe motoring environment.

“Therefore, drivers must always be on alert while driving on the highways,” he advised.
