Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido has been sent to Kiyawa Prison over an alleged inciting comments on the forthcoming local government elections in the State.

He was docked on a four count charge at a magistrate court in Dutse.

Lamido was arraigned after a petition was filed against him by the Jigawa state Government. He was then invited by the Nigeria Police Zonal Headquarters in Kano.

Lamido was brought into the Jigawa State Magistrate’s Court 2 in Dutse amidst tight security to face trial on a four-count charge ranging from Incitement of Public Disturbance,  Disturbance of Public Peace, defamation of character to criminal intimidation.

But Protesters thereafter stormed the court premises chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards hailing the governor and denouncing the police.

Counsel to the accused person, Barrister Felix Jones applied for bail but his request was not granted by presiding Magistrate Lamin Usman.

Justice Lamin Usman adjourned the case to 4th of May 2017 for further hearing Lamido was whisked away amidst tight security, with the Police firing teargas to disperse the protesters.

The former governor is to remain in Kiyawa Prison until his bail is decided.
