The Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, HYPPADEC, has partnered with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to organise a 4-day training workshop for its staff at levels four to seven in order to increase their capacity and effectiveness as a result of the floods that have ravaged some states in Nigeria.
Increased rainfalls this year has led to an unprecedented destruction of farmlands and properties, equally leading to deaths and displacements.
Because of the severity of the floods, the gathering of clouds now signals danger and sends shivers down many people’s spines.
The situation is exacerbated by citizens’ and concerned authorities’ failure to prepare despite warnings.
NEMA had, in August, warned that 32 states and 233 LGAs were prone to flooding in the coming months.

This sad reality is now piling pressure on the capacity of agencies designed to provide relief and improve the quality of lives of the people living in affected areas.
The Hydro Electric Dams, situated in 6 states in Nigeria, are the major causes of flooding
The gates of the dams have been opened to release water downstream due to increase in rainfall.
The Hydro Electric power producing Areas Development commission is set up to improve the quality of lives of people affected by the operations of the Hydro Electric dams.
It is organising this 4 day training to enhance the capacity of its staff in partnership with the industrial training fund .
The managing director of the commission Abubakar Yelwa also disclosed that the trainings will continue and eventually become a necessary requirement for staff to be promoted in the commission.
