A late-night attack in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State has left dozens of families homeless after suspected reprisal violence.
At least 24 houses and 16 granaries were set ablaze, prompting police intervention.
The violence erupted in Gidan Na Ruwa, a Fulani settlement, after two men from Zangon Maje Village Musa Hussaini and Shanu Sule were allegedly beaten, and their motorcycle snatched.
In response, they mobilized their community members, who stormed Gidan Na Ruwa at night, flashing torchlights and chanting war slogans.
Fearing for their lives, residents fled.
By the time police arrived, the attackers had already torched homes and food storage units.
The police swiftly moved in, restoring calm and arresting five suspects now in custody.
Jigawa State Police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shisu Adam, confirmed that security patrols have been intensified to prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, the Area Commander of Ringim has engaged local leaders to foster peace.
The police have warned against mob justice, urging residents to report grievances through legal channels.
