The Federal Government has called on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing economic reforms, especially as the nation prepares for the rollout of a new tax policy in January 2026.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the appeal on Friday while receiving an ICAN delegation led by its President, Malam Haruna Nma Yahaya, during a courtesy visit to the Radio House in Abuja.

Idris said the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is firmly rooted in fiscal discipline, responsible leadership, economic transformation, digitisation of government systems, and transparent engagement with citizens. He stressed that public understanding of reforms is as important as the reforms themselves.

“Reforms must not only work, but citizens must also clearly understand them. This is why collaboration with reputable professional bodies like ICAN is essential,” he said, urging the Institute to help drive awareness around the new tax regime and other economic changes.

The Minister also offered ICAN access to government-owned media platforms and national orientation channels to promote financial literacy, ethical governance, and public enlightenment. He proposed joint efforts in research-based policy communication, capacity-building for civil servants, and simplifying economic information for the public.

Idris commended ICAN for its long-standing commitment to professionalism and ethical standards in both public and private sectors, noting that such expertise is vital to strengthening Nigeria’s reform efforts.

Responding, ICAN President Yahaya praised the Ministry for revitalising government communication and improving public engagement. He said ICAN is fully committed to using its nationwide platforms, including its ICAN on the Air programme, to simplify government policies, boost financial literacy, and support transparency and accountability.

The Minister assured the Institute that the Tinubu administration remains open to constructive partnerships aimed at delivering people-centred and transparent reforms.
