Due to recent clashes between farmers and herders in Ika area of Delta State, the state government has taken sensitisation of the 2021 anti-grazing law to ensure stakeholders including herdsmen, local farmers and local government administration know their roles in the implementation process.
The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Olisa Ifeajika who organised the One-day sensitisation in Ika South Secretariat want the people to report any infringement to the local government taskforce on the anti-grazing law.
The Ibegbunam Hall at the secretariat of Ika South Council area was the venue where Stakeholders from Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas which include farmers, cattle rearers, traditional rulers, law enforcement agencies and local government chairmen gathered to interact on how to ensure implementation of the Delta State Livestock Breeding, Rearing and Marketing Regulations Law is well understood by everyone.
Though it was one event but the message of implementation of the law will continue to trickle down to all the stakeholders beyond this hall.
The interaction here demonstrates that many people do not grasp the implications of the regulation, which has been in effect since 2021.
The enlightenment extended to other parts of Delta state for the effective application of the law to safeguard farmers, herders, and promote food security and economic prosperity.
