EEDC begins mobile MAP metering to customers in Anambra

in Latest Nigeria News, Nigeria News
EEDC begins mobile MAP metering to customers in Anambra The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has announced that it has begun operations for the year 2023 by introducing mobile MAP metering to its customers in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria, to ensure they have access to prepaid meters within 48 hours. The Metering Assistance Program (MAP) is a metering intervention designed and approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to narrow the sector's existing metering gap. It will be recalled that in June 2022, EEDC launched the pilot of mobile MAP metering in Enugu and has executed the same in several locations within the metropolis. According to a statement issued by Mr. Emeka Ezeh, EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, the exercise, which allows customers to pay and get metered, and reimbursed with the value of the cost of meter through energy over a period, is a conscious way the company has adopted to close the existing metering gap in its network. “It is designed to be implemented according to Feeders, with 3 different locations selected within the areas covered by the Feeder, where metering will be going on simultaneously. Customers within these areas will be pre-notified of when the exercise will be carried out within their neighbourhood,” he said. Ezeh emphasised that with Ogidi District taking the lead, its Umunya Feeder has been selected for the kick-off on January 10th, 2023, and the exercise will take place concurrently for three days in the following locations: St. Paul Anglican Church, Ogidi, Ochendo Hall, Ogidi, and Afor Market Townhall Office, Obosi, Anambra state. “Customers residing in the listed locations are expected to visit the site along with a valid form of identification (either Drivers License, Voters Card, NIN or International Passport) and a copy of their bills. At the location, EEDC officials will assist customers with the MAP application process, and installation will be made once payment is confirmed. “The Single-phase meter goes for N63,061.27 while the Three-phase meter is N117,910.69. The prices are all inclusive of VAT.” Customers are therefore encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and get metered, bearing in mind that they will be reimbursed with the value of the cost of the meter through energy, over a period. This exercise is carried out by EEDC in conjunction with its MAPs (Meter Asset Providers) – MOJEC International Limited and Advanced Energy Management Services (AEMS). The company reaffirmed that it is in its best interest to have all its customers metered, which informed its commitment towards ensuring that its customers are metered, as that is the only way they can manage their consumption and pay for what they consume.
