The government of Delta State has committed to providing more opportunities for girls and women by improving their earnings and ensuring inclusion for women in public service, politics, and other aspects.

Commissioner For Girl-Child, Entrepreneurship, and development in Delta State, Nkechi Chukwurah, disclosed this during the commemoration of International Girl Child Day in Asaba

The day was commemorated with a sensitisation walk around major roads in Asaba to create awareness about the need to shine a light on injustices and challenges confronting the female gender in society.

They then moved to the Unity Hall, where speakers underlined the subject of the day, “Our Time is Now; Our Rights, Our Future,” in order to educate these young ladies on what to do at all times and how to use the chances available.

The Delta State Government pledged that the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa will continue to safeguard the rights of the girl-child and provide more opportunities.

There have been reports of discrimination against girls in Nigeria, but governments at all levels are striving to shift the tide via ongoing campaigning and policy development that will safeguard girls everywhere.

The governor said that empowerment of the Girl-child was essentially to uplift the economic and social status of traditionally under-privileged girls in society, noting that empowerment of the girl-child from ages 18 to 30 had become a major public policy issue.
