Comptroller of Adamawa/Taraba Area Command of the Nigeria Customs says men of the service intercept smuggled petroleum products worth N36.9 million in shipping to Cameroon on Nigeria water ways in Adamawa state.
The nation’s waterways appear to offer a new path for oil thieves.
However, Nigerian customs officers devised a technique to outwit the crooks, resulting in the capture of 43,935 litres of premium motor spirit wrapped in 1,071 jerry cans and 85 drums.
The command also intercepted a tricycle and two secondhand automobiles equipped with secret compartments for illicit petroleum product transportation.
According to Comptroller Bashir, on June 29, 2024, the command confiscated 85 drums of PMS from smugglers attempting to transport the substance unlawfully to the Republic of Cameroon.
He warned the unrepentant smugglers to desist from smuggling activities saying that, his command has repositioned all its machineries across its area of operation in collaboration with other sister agencies for effective border management.
The custom boss said his men will not relent in their efforts to keep the area of their coverage out of smuggling activities in line with the their DG zero tolerant to smuggling.
