Governor of Cross River State Bassey Otu. has convened emergency closed-door meeting with heads of security agencies in the state to address growing concerns over a planned protest by Nigerians scheduled for August 1.,2024.
The meeting became necessary to express fears and strategise on measures.
Shortly after the meeting, Commissioner of Police CRS command, Augustine Grimmah warned individuals planning to participate in the protest to refrain from any act that could lead to a breach of peace, stating that security agencies will not hesitate to take decisive action against anyone perpetrating evil or causing chaos.
The governor and security heads resolved to maintain peace and order in the state at all costs. While dispelling rumors of a planned curfew in the state, assuring citizens that there are no plans to restrict movement.
The Commissioner of Police assured the public that security agencies are fully prepared to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and prevent any potential disruption of normal activities.
Citizens are advised to remain calm, go about their daily activities.
In attendance were the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command,Augustine Grimmah; Director of State Security Services (DSS); Nigerian Army , Nigerian Navy representatives; and other top security officials.
