The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, at a news conference, said the Ministry got six billion naira out of the 2.3 trillion naira the federal government injected into the economy to mitigate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Adegbite said the outbreak of Coronavirus has impacted negatively on government’s plan to revive the Ajaokuta Steel Development company.
The Minister said illegal miners arrested in Zamfara are now in Abuja for prosecution.
Those arrested in Osun are still being held in the state as government finalises plans to take them to court.
Adegbite said the six billion naira has not been disbursed yet but allocated.
He said the Ministry also has the privilege to source fund from the National Resource fund to augment the allotted 6 billion naira as intervention fund whenever it is disbursed.
