Child abuse: Civil Society groups train teachers on prevention, redress

Image result for Gombe child abuseThe Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Gombe State has begun training teachers across the state in prevention and providing redress for child abuse. The initiative is to arrest the increase in reported cases of child abuse in the state.

TVC correspondent Lanre Adeyemi reports that abuse could occur in several forms – sexual, Physical or Emotional. Children are regarded as the most vulnerable. When these abuses occur, they often cannot identify them as abuse or know how to seek redress.

Selected teachers are undergoing training to equip them to in turn teach children and their parents to prevent, identify and address various forms of abuses.

The collation of civil societies organisations in Gombe is forming an alliance with the state government, traditional rulers and religious leaders in executing a three pronged approach of prevention, enlightenment and redress. This, they are confident, would be effective in tackling child exploitation.

Teachers in one hundred schools spread across the eleven local government areas of Gombe State will be trained in the campaign against child abuse.
