CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe is set to arrive in Dakar on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, for high-level talks with the country’s leaders and football authorities.
This was disclosed in a terse statement on CAF’s website, on Tuesday, April 7.
The statement reads: “The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) President Dr Patrice Motsepe to visit Senegal on Wednesday and meet Senegalese Head of State HE Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Fédération Sénégalaise de Football, Mr Abdoulaye Fall.
“CAF and Fédération Sénégalaise de Football will provide more information on the details of the visit in due course.”

The visit comes in the wake of the chaotic 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco, where Senegal defeated host nation Morocco 1-0 after extra time, courtesy of a late strike from Pape Gueye.
The match, however, spiraled into chaos in the final minutes, leaving lingering tensions across African football.
Senegal’s head coach, Pape Thiaw, infamously ordered the Teranga Lions to leave the pitch to protest Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ndala’s controversial decisions.
This led to canceling a Senegalese goal and awarding Morocco a late penalty in stoppage time.
Sadio Mane intervened to persuade his teammates to return, leading to a tense finish after Brahim Diaz missed the penalty and the game extended into extra time.
CAF responded by sanctioning both Senegal and Morocco for the disturbances. But the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) was unsatisfied and appealed to the CAF Appeal Board, seeking to overturn the result. Two of the four requests were approved: Senegal was stripped of the title, and Morocco awarded a 3-0 walkover victory.
CAF, however, rejected demands to rescind medals, trophies, and the $10 million prize money.
In response, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) immediately appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
CAS rulings can take months unless all parties, including FRMF and CAF, agree to an expedited process.
