The 12th edition of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) Commission Meeting is currently taking place in Abuja.
With the theme “Celebrating Our Collective Wins in Capacity Building and Aviation Safety in the BAG Region and Beyond,” participants are hopeful that the three-day meeting will yield positive outcomes for the region.
In his opening remarks, the Director General of the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and chief host of the event, Capt. Alex Badeh Jnr. described the Banjul Accord Group as a model of regional cooperation, emphasizing that collaboration among member states has been key to advancing aviation safety in the region.
The outgoing chairman of the group, Mr. Charles Erhueh, recounted achievements during his six-year tenure, including the establishment of accident investigation bureaus in member states such as Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Cape Verde, and Liberia.
He added that Guinea and The Gambia are expected to have theirs operational before the end of the year.
