Bandits have abducted and unknown number of travellers on the Funtua-Gusau Road in a daring attack, the abductees include Alhaji Bashir Abara Gummi, the Zamfara State Coordinator of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday when the bandits blocked the busy road and opened fire on moving vehicles, killing two people on the spot .

According to reports, Alhaji Gummi was on his way to Abuja for an official assignment when the attack happened.

The bandits then kidnapped the coordinator and several other travelers after the shooting had led to them stopping to evade them.

The Zamfara State Auditor General, Alhaji Abubakar Dan Maliki, narrowly escaped the attack by making a quick U-turn when he arrived at the scene and witnessed the chaos.

The RMAFC is a federal agency responsible for overseeing revenues accruing to and disbursement of funds from the Federal Account.

As the Zamfara State Coordinator, Alhaji Gummi played a crucial role in ensuring the state’s revenue allocation and fiscal responsibilities were managed effectively.

The attack highlights the growing concern of banditry and insecurity along major highways in Nigeria.

Authorities are urged to take swift action to ensure the safe release of the abducted travelers and bring the perpetrators to justice.
