AYCF alleges attempts to limit Abba Kyari's freedom

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has voiced serious concerns over recent alleged attempts to interfere with the freedom of Abba Kyari.

The AYCF strongly condemns any actions that undermine the concept of bail, emphasizing its vital role in ensuring justice and fairness within the legal system.

In a statement issued by Yerima Shettima, the President General of AYCF, the organization highlighted the significance of bail as a fundamental right. Shettima stressed that bail allows individuals accused of crimes to maintain their liberty while awaiting trial, provided they adhere to court-imposed conditions. This right, he argued, is essential for the accused to continue their daily activities and contribute to society during the legal process.

Shettima pointed out that Abba Kyari was granted bail in accordance with legal procedures, and there has been no evidence to suggest he has violated the terms of his release or obstructed justice. Despite this, AYCF has noted disturbing reports of attempts to intimidate and harass individuals on bail, which raises serious concerns about the protection of legal rights.

The AYCF has called for the preservation of the rule of law and the safeguarding of individuals’ rights to fair treatment within the legal system. Shettima emphasized that tampering with an accused’s bail should only be considered in exceptional circumstances where the interests of justice and community protection are paramount.

The AYCF underscored that courts must operate based on principles of fairness, transparency, and the rule of law to ensure that the rights of all individuals, including the presumption of innocence and the right to liberty, are upheld. Any decision to deny Abba Kyari the full freedom to enjoy his bail should be met with resistance and challenge if it is believed to infringe upon his fundamental rights.

Shettima reiterated that the principles of justice and the rule of law are foundational pillars of a democratic society. He stressed that these principles must be upheld and protected at all times, and the right to bail should be respected as a fundamental right, not a privilege to be arbitrarily granted or revoked by those in power.
