In a peaceful traditional selection process, the Asaba Council of Chiefs has unanimously chosen Professor Epiphany Azinge, a judge at the Commonwealth Secretariat Arbitral Tribunal and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as the 14th Asagba of Asaba designate.

The selection took place at the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, where leaders of the five villages that make up Asaba gathered to choose a successor to the late Professor Chike Edozien, the 13th Asagba of Asaba.

It has been a long search for successor to the throne of the Asagba of Asaba.

Today, after a thorough consultation process, the council of chiefs, presided over by the regent, narrowed down the selection to 10 nominees.

The selection process, which involved breaking into the five villages for further consultation, demonstrated the transparency and inclusivity of the traditional selection process. Then a unanimous decision was reached.

The selection of Professor Azinge marks a significant milestone in the history of Asaba. The choice was met with widespread approval and acceptance from the community.

The traditional rites leading to the coronation of Prof. Azinge as the 14th Asagba of Asaba have commenced. As part of the ancient customs, Prof. Azinge, the former Director General of the Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, has entered a period of isolation and will remain out of public sight until his ascension to the throne.
