The Attorney General of the federation Lateef Fagbemi has asked the police to transfer the case file involving protesters arraigned on 1st November at the federal high court Abuja before Justice Obiora Egwuatu who were alleged to be minors.

In a press statement, the AGF stated that his office will investigate several factors surrounding the incident in order to make an educated judgment.

He noted that he is aware that the defendants have been remanded in detention centre and adjourned the case to January given that will need the case file to look into the matter.

“It is not within my power to vary the order of the court remanding the defendants in detention centre and adjourning the case to January. I have, however, directed the Nigeria Police to transfer the case file to my office and hand over same to the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) tomorrow, Saturday 2nd November, 2024.”

“I have further directed the DPPF to immediately put machinery in motion for consideration of the court to bring the adjournment date forward (an earlier date).”

The defendants were arraigned on a 10-count charge of Terrorism, attempt to overthrow the government, and mutiny.

On Friday, the Police arraigned 72 persons that included minors, before the Federal High Court in Abuja for participating in the recent nationwide protest.
