The Nigerian Army has taken a significant step toward enhancing its operational readiness with the inauguration of a cutting-edge Wargaming Centre at the Department of Land Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, on Saturday, 6 December 2025.

Air Vice Marshal Hassan Idris Alhaji, Commandant of AFCSC, welcomed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal, to the ceremony.

He highlighted the College’s enduring commitment to developing officers who are intellectually equipped for command, instructional, and staff roles in complex security environments.

According to him, the new Wargaming Centre, conceptualized under the vision of the COAS, will significantly enhance personnel capacity to design modern operational concepts, sharpen strategic thinking, and improve decision-making in combat scenarios critical to today’s dynamic battlefield.

The Commandant expressed gratitude to the COAS for the facility and reaffirmed the College’s support for the Department of Land Warfare in delivering world-class professional military education.

In his address, Lieutenant General Shaibu emphasized the strategic importance of AFCSC as a hub for training officers capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

He described the Wargaming Centre as a vital tool for refining commanders’ skills in planning, rehearsing, and executing operations with precision.

The COAS underscored that investing in advanced training technologies is essential for staying ahead of adversaries and enhancing the Army’s operational effectiveness across diverse theatres.

He urged students to fully utilize the facility, particularly as the Nigerian Army continues to operate in fast-changing, technology-driven environments.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also reiterated his vision to modernize all military training infrastructure to meet global standards.

He noted that AFCSC’s reputation as a leading institution, attracting officers from around the world, makes state-of-the-art facilities like the Wargaming Centre indispensable.

The COAS further expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. whose commitment to national security underpins the Army’s transformation agenda.

He also commended the Commandant and the entire College community for their dedication to professional military excellence.
