The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that Ihiala, Ogbaru, and Ayamelum Local Government Areas (LGAs) remained peaceful during Saturday’s governorship election.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated this in a release on Saturday in Awka, noting the strong presence of security personnel across the state.

“The Anambra State Police Command today reports that the governorship election is going on peacefully in Ihiala, Ogbaru, Ayamelum LGAs and other parts of the state, with strong and coordinated security presence in the areas. The police has also maintained strong security presence with other security agencies and continued to dominate all strategic locations to ensure a secure and orderly voting atmosphere in the state,” Ikenga said.

He explained that police operatives, alongside personnel from sister security agencies, were deployed across polling centres, collation points, and waterways. Border communities were also monitored to prevent disruptions and give voters confidence to exercise their civic duties without fear or intimidation.

The police spokesman emphasised that the command remains strictly neutral and is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process. He urged residents to continue behaving peacefully and comply with lawful instructions from security personnel on duty.
