Agricultural experts identify measures to boost sector

Agriculture, after oil and gas, has been described as the sector with the greatest economic potential in Nigeria.

Members of organised private sectors say they have identified measures that will support growth of the sector

At the 38 Omolayole management lecture series in Lagos, seasoned Economist, Muda Yusuf engaged organised private sector on sustainable development of the Agricultural sector for National well-being.

Mr. Yusuf highlighted numerous bottlenecks facing Agriculture and how the challenges can be addressed for the sector to flourish.

He noted that it was of concern that the sector has not been growing the way it should grow and there are a lots of issues around food security, support for agricultural Agro Allied Industries linkages amidst others.

Mr. Yusuf said all of these issues needs to be addressed so on so all of these in order to ensure the transformation of a cultural sector.

The host of the events the Nigeria employers consultative Association NECA commended the consistency of the Omolayole Management lecture series as the topics discussed
are related to contemporary socio-economic issues of national and international importance.

President of NECA, Taiwo Adeniyi said “as a people have been further brought to the fore, also with the Russia war on Ukraine which has created a bridge and disruption in the supply chain of critical agricultural produce especially with the need for a sustainable National policy on agriculture has become more critical to the world at large.

They emphasized that for agriculture to thrive in Nigeria, the youths must be involved while governments need to make the
sector attractive.

The Omolayole lecture is held annually in honor of Dr Michael Omolayole who served as president of numerous organised private sector associations.
