The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has dismissed claims that Governor Ademola Adeleke has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC described as false the rumours that the governor is under pressure from the presidency to join the party.

The party noted that there are constitutional procedures that must be followed for such a move, adding that it is unrealistic for a governor to defect without the knowledge and involvement of key stakeholders, including the National Chairman, Mr. Ali Dalori; the State Leader, Gboyega Oyetola, who is now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy; Chief Bisi Akande; the State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal; and members of the APC Elders’ Caucus.

“We want to state categorically and unequivocally that it is a lie from the pit of hell being spread by the governor and his lieutenants that he has defected into our party. Nothing of such is happening or even being contemplated at any level of the APC,” the statement read.

The party further denied that the presidency had at any time pressured Governor Adeleke to defect, describing the rumours as baseless.

Olabisi observed that some aides and foot soldiers of the governor appear overly excited over the rumour, which, according to him, remains purely speculative.

“It is indeed amusing that the same people who have persistently badmouthed the APC are now trying to paint the party as a beautiful bride,” the statement continued.

The party also faulted what it described as constant misinformation from the governor’s camp and social media handlers, alleging that they are falsely claiming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been making overtures to Adeleke.

“This is nothing but a concocted narrative to create a false sense of importance around the governor,” Olabisi added.

While assuring party members and supporters that the APC remains united and strong, Olabisi urged them to disregard what he called the series of falsehoods allegedly being spread by the Governor Adeleke-led administration under the PDP about a defection to the APC.
