The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its Deputy Publicity Secretary in Imo State, Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu.

Asuzu, a respected political figure and cultural advocate, reportedly collapsed and died unexpectedly in the early hours of Wednesday.

His passing has been described by the party as a profound loss to both the ADC and the wider Nigerian sociopolitical community.

In an official statement released by Imo State Publicity Secretary, MacDonald Amadi, the party paid tribute to Asuzu’s “uncommon intellect, conviction, and service,” highlighting his significant contributions to political engagement and cultural discourse in the Southeast.

A native of Umuma Isiaku in Ideato South Local Government Area, Asuzu was known for blending academic excellence with grassroots activism.

He held degrees in Theology and Political Science and was pursuing a doctorate before his untimely death.

Beyond politics, Asuzu was deeply involved in cultural advocacy.

He founded the Igbo Intelligentsia Renaissance, a platform aimed at promoting cultural renewal and intellectual dialogue within the Igbo community.

He was also the convener of Ikoro Ndigbo and the national leader of I Stand With ADC, a support group that mobilised citizens for active political participation.

Once a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asuzu earned widespread respect as a prolific writer, public affairs analyst, and visiting lecturer. His voice was a familiar presence in both academic and sociopolitical discussions across the region.

Described as a devoted husband, father, and mentor, Asuzu was remembered by the ADC as someone who inspired many across religious and secular spaces.

“His passing is an irreplaceable loss — not just to his immediate family or our party, but to the larger Nigerian society,” the statement concluded.
