Adamawa: NDLEA arrested 536 drug offenders, seized 4,880kg of illicit substances in 2024

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Adamawa command says significant strides in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking were made in 2024.

Addressing journalists at the command’s headquarter in Yola, NDLEA state commander, Agboalu Femi, said in 2024, a total of 4,880.7 kilogram of illicit substances were seized and 536 offenders arrested, including 518 men and 18 women by the NDLEA command.

Agboalu Femi said the command also disrupted the financial operations of drug traffickers, through interim forfeiture of four vehicles used in drug trafficking and N1,207,268 in monetary exhibits, which were deposited into the Treasury Single Account.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He added that the chain of distribution of illicitly drugs to the state was disrupted, with many suspects arrested

The NDLEA commander explained that the confiscated substances included cannabis sativa, tramadol, diazepam, and codeine-laced cough syrups amongst others

The command also achieved other results in the court, where it secured about 148 convictions in 2024, with sentencing ranging from three months to 25 years.

He added that 52 clients were admitted for counselling and rehabilitation, with 40 successfully completing the programme.

The command affirmed that public awareness campaigns on the dangers of using illicit drugs played a major role in reaching out to over 85,000 individuals through 142 programmes conducted in schools, workplaces, communities and faith-based institutions.
