The National Chairman of the Accord Party, Prof. Chris Imumolen, says afrobeats star David Adeleke (Davido) is welcome into the party but must align with what he described as its “authentic leadership”.

Imumolen made the comment while reacting to reports that Davido is set to pick up his Accord Party membership card in Osun State, shortly after Governor Ademola Adeleke announced that he would be seeking re-election on the party’s platform.

The Accord chairman said the party was open to new members but stressed that structures recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must be respected.

According to him, Governor Adeleke currently holds what he termed a “disputed ticket” issued by a factional leadership of the party.

“Davido is welcome in Accord, but he must align with the party’s authentic leadership unlike Governor Adeleke, who holds a disputed ticket from a factional leadership,” Imumolen said.

Governor Adeleke recently confirmed that he joined the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved leadership issues within the PDP at the national level.

The development has triggered fresh alignment and contestation within the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
