The Yobe State Police Command has impounded no fewer than 70 vehicles for various traffic-related offences as part of a renewed effort to enforce compliance with the Motor Traffic Regulations Act.
The crackdown, which began on Monday, targets vehicles operating without proper documentation or in violation of existing road traffic laws.
In a statement released to the media, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, said the operation was prompted by increasing reports of criminal activities involving vehicles with concealed identities—particularly those with covered or tinted windows.
“As enforcement commenced, several categories of traffic violations were detected. Vehicles without number plates, those with incomplete or invalid documentation, and vehicles with covered number plates without valid justification were impounded,” Abdulkarim stated.

He confirmed that a total of 70 vehicles have so far been seized for infractions ranging from the use of unauthorized tinted glass to missing registration details.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Emmanuel Ado, visited the scene of the enforcement to monitor the exercise and ensure it was being carried out in accordance with the law. He urged vehicle owners and drivers to regularize their vehicle documents and, where applicable, obtain proper authorization for tinted windows.
CP Ado emphasised that maintaining accurate vehicle records is critical to public safety, particularly in the investigation of crimes, traffic incidents, or any situation where traceability is essential.
“This operation aims to sustain law enforcement efforts and curb the activities of miscreants who use vehicles to commit crimes within communities,” the statement added.
The Yobe State Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through responsible enforcement of traffic regulations.
