Six men have been remanded in custody by a Lagos State Mobile Court for allegedly attacking officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other enforcement officers during a midnight operation along Airport Road, Lagos.
The seven suspects were arraigned on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, on a four-count charge before the Chief Magistrate of the Mobile Court. One defendant, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail, while the other six were ordered to be remanded pending further hearing on 19 February 2026.
The operation, led by LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki in collaboration with security operatives, the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Corps and the Lagos State Task Force, followed complaints from the Nigerian Airport Authority (NPA) over persistent illegal activities around airport facilities.
The NPA said the activities of criminal gangs and recalcitrant commercial bus operators had become a public nuisance, with reports of harassment and theft against unsuspecting travellers and residents.
During the enforcement exercise, five officers were reportedly attacked with weapons, while a tow truck belonging to the Authority was set ablaze.
Despite the confrontation, the task force impounded 56 vehicles for various traffic and environmental offences, including 44 commercial buses, five private cars and seven trucks.
Bakare-Oki reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of road users. He warned that the government would not tolerate violence or attempts to obstruct lawful enforcement operations.
He added that enforcement along strategic corridors in Lagos would continue — in collaboration with sister agencies — to curb criminality and maintain public order.
