A canoe carrying 20 passengers capsized while attempting to cross the Gamoda River at Nahuce Village in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The Jigawa State Command of the Nigerian Police Force confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam.
The statement stated that the tragic accident occurred at aproximately 3:00 pm.

The accident resulted in the loss of five lives, while 15 passengers remain missing.
A team of policemen, local divers, and good Samaritans immediately responded to the scene for a rescue mission.
Intensive efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining passengers.
