Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has visited Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area following the deadly conflict between the Fulani and Kamuku communities that has claimed 256 lives and displaced hundreds of residents.

The governor’s visit came eight days after a high-powered state government delegation was sent to the area to broker peace following the outbreak of violence.

According to the state government, the clashes have left 256 people dead and more than 145 houses destroyed, forcing many families to flee their homes.

Addressing traditional rulers, community leaders and residents, Governor Bago attributed the crisis to land disputes and local political differences, which he said were exploited by criminal elements to fuel the violence.
