Nigeria’s Traditional institutions are demanding more responsibility in curbing crimes and criminalities at the grassroots.
The Traditional Ruler of Ibagwa-Nike HRH Emmanuel UGWU made the call while marking his 54th birthday in Enugu
Recently, President Bola Tinubu implored the Nigerian military and other security agencies to intensify efforts at containing the multi-dimensional security challenges in the country, saying there is no relief until violent crime is contained in the country.
However, many Nigerians believe that the inclusion of traditional institutions might help strengthen the fight against insecurity.
That is why the traditional ruler of Ibagwa-Nike in Enugu state is advocating a review of leadership responsibilities, that will accommodate traditional Institutions and give them the responsibility of maintaining community security.
The former Governor of Kastina state is also advocating for synergy and show of love to humanity, irrespective of ethnic affiliation or tribe.
The role of traditional institutions in conflict management cannot be over-emphasized, but what Nigerians are hoping for is a country devoid of violent crime.
The carnival-like event featured traditional displays, religious and cultural dances, and dignitaries identifying with the king on his 54th birthday.
