Germany To Partner ECOWAS States To Develop Power Grids

The German Government has promised to develop electricity grids in all ECOWAS member states.

The visiting Chancellor of Germany declared while addressing local and foreign journalists in Abuja after a closed door meeting with the President of the Ecowas Commission.

The Ecowas President also announced the setting up of an electricity market.

The German Chancellor’s aircraft touched down at about 2.30pm local time.

This visit is not the first time a German Chancellor os visiting Nigeria but it is significant in strengthening the bilateral relations between Nigeria and Germany.

More importantly are plans by the German Government to also strengthen its cooperation with the West African regional body, ECOWAS.

The chancellor on arrival at the ECOWAS Secretariat was received by the President of the Commission.

They later both stood to brief journalists after stepping out of a closed door discussion.

The ECOWAS Commission President disclosed that they signed an agreement of 81 million Euros grant for support.

The German Chancellor says ECOWAS is very important and strategic in achieving global peace and security.

He also stressed  plans to further deepen cooperation with Ecowas especially on electricity and Export.
