2023: US allocates $50m for technical support to Nigeria during elections

The United States of America has allocated the sum of $50,000,000 dollars as support funds for Nigeria’s 2023 general elections.

This was disclosed by the general consul of the United States, Will Stevens at the opening ceremony of a three-day workshop for journalists held in ibadan.

The cash, according to him will be used for technical support, civil society organisations (CSOs), and journalistic training.

The United States mission to Nigeria has restated its commitment to ensuring a credible and peaceful election in Nigeria in 2023.

According to Stevens, the US govt said it wants the 2023 elections in Nigeria to be credible and transparent such that every vote will count.

The Consular General in his address said the training was to build the journalist’s expertise and get them familiar with the necessary tools to cover the exercise.

He disclosed that the United States in its efforts to ensure a successful electoral process, it has made adequate financial support to Aid the process.

Participants at the workshop believe that the training will provide them the necessary Knowledge and Skills that will allow them cover the election with the required professionalism.

About 150 journalists have been selected in Lagos, Oyo and Enugu for the training.

He restated that the US government has been working closely with partners through US Agency for International Development(USAID) to ensure that every vote counts.
