INEC began testing its BVAS system with the Ekiti election which was conducted June 18, 2022 and the result declared.
Reacting to the court court judgment, Journalist/Executive Editor, Upshot Media, Mojeed Jamiu speaking on the development said the SDP Governorship candidate Segun Oni did not win in a single local government out of 16, whereas the incumbent won in 15 of the 16 local governments.
The third candidate, PDP won his local government in Efon by as much as 6000 votes were Segun Oni score only 339.
Segun Oni also lost his local government to this incumbent.
“On what basis did Barrister Owoseni lead Segun Oni to the tribunal. I don’t know what they wanted to achieve.
Segun Oni has rejected the tribunal adjustment, saying the tribunal overlooked very important pronouncements by the Supreme Court in reaching its conclusion.
The SDP has said this judgment is unfortunate, and not good for Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking further, Mr Jamiu noted that politicians are incurable optimists and as long as they listen to lawyers, they will continue to have that hope.
“A lawyer will always tell you to try, you see them defending armed robbers, defending kidnappers, defending all manner of people, because that is their job.
“You lost an election with more than 100,000 votes, zero in 16 local government. You didn’t win in any local government and people were urging you on on.
“You are looking for technicalities to win when the people rejected you and you still want to continue to the appellate courts.
“I feel sad for Engineer Segun Oni, he should have allowed the will of the people of Ekiti to prevail because this was not an election that was close.
