Eight kidnapped victims have been released unconditionally in Sokoto State as part of the ongoing mediation initiated by Sokoto state government and the leadership of the suspected bandits.
Speaking at the event to reunite the victims with their relatives, Sokoto state deputy Governor , Manir Dan Iya said the mediation process is one of the strategies the state government has adopted towards restoring peace to the affected areas in the state.
He said the security challenge has festered despite all security measures applied and the state government decided to apply the mediation strategy.
Manir said they have strong assurances that the Fulani leaders will honour the cease fire while also warning members of the volunteer vigilante groups, Yan Sakai to stop extra judicial killings.
Four of the released victims are from Sabon Birnin and two from Isa local government areas and two from Maradi in Niger Republic.
