British Prime Minister Theresa May has says she hopes the United Kingdom will retain a close relationship and partnership with the European Union after the UK’s withdrawal from the bloc.
May delivered the message in her main “Brexit speech” made in the Italian city of Florence on Friday in an attempt to find a creative, practical solution to Brexit following several rounds of fruitless negotiations between the UK and EU.
The prime minister said that she is optimistic about the prospects for both the UK and the EU, stressing that the UK might stay in the EU single market during a two-year transition period after the Article 50 negotiations end in March 2019.
