Maritime: Osinbajo urges enforcement agencies to uphold rule of law

Image result for nigeria customs officersActing President Yemi Osinbajo wants law Enforcement Agencies to be mindful of the fact that the Rule of Law remains Fundamental to the country’s Administration of the Justice system.

He gave the view at the Public Presentation and Launching of Harmonized Standard Operating Procedures On Arrest, Detention and Prosecution Of Vessels and Persons in Nigeria’s Maritime Environment.

Correspondent Mariah Olasehinde reports that it was a launch that has become increasingly necessary in addressing
attendant inadequacies in Law which has hampered efforts of Maritime Law Enforcement Agencies to checkmate illegalities in the face of emerging diverse threats and new methods of criminality

The articulation of the Harmonised Standard Operation Procedures HSOP is expected to plug all these loopholes

On his part, acting President Yemi Osinbajo believed the initiative clearly demonstrates that the maritime security community in Nigeria is committed to providing an enabling environment for legitimate maritime business to
thrive in the maritime environment.

The highlight of the event is the the Unveiling of the book by Professor Osinbajo.

The Organisers say the book outlines proper procedures to check undue litigations against Maritime Law Enforcement Agencies arising from the discharge of their legitimate duties in spite of extant judicial Laws.
