Veteran actor Chiwetalu Agu has cautioned men facing financial difficulties to reconsider fatherhood amid Nigeria’s deepening economic strain.

In a video shared on Instagram, Agu drew attention to the rising cost of living, stressing that the financial burden of raising a child has become significantly heavier.

He listed increasing expenses such as diapers, school fees, fuel, and everyday commodities as key concerns that should influence decisions about starting a family.

The actor advised men to assess their economic capacity before bringing a child into the world, warning that failure to do so could worsen their financial situation.

“Pampers prices are increasing, school fees are rising, fuel prices are increasing, and even the cost of commodities keeps going up. Yet you have nothing, and you’re still getting a woman pregnant—you’ll definitely cry more than that baby,” he said.

Nigeria has been grappling with high inflation, rising fuel and food prices, and growing unemployment, which have put immense pressure on households across the country.

Basic commodities, including school fees and childcare items, have seen sharp increases, making parenting an expensive responsibility.
