Troops intercept major supply of ammunition in Kaduna, arrests arms supplier

Operation Forest Sanity soldiers in Kaduna State have intercepted a massive shipment of ammunition being delivered to bandits by an illegal arms dealer.

The troops also arrested a suspect, Aminu Abdulahi, who was driving the vehicle around Polewire, Birnin Gwari local government area of the state.

The Kaduna state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan, explained that the troops followed up on credible intelligence about gunrunning activities in the area.

Aruwan said the arms were suspected to be on the transport chain for delivery to bandits terrorising the community.

According to him, they stopped a suspicious-looking black Toyota Corolla vehicle in the course of diligent road checks within the location.

On searching the vehicle more than 2,000 rounds of various grades of ammunition, concealed in different parts of the car were recovered by the troops Mr. Aruwan Said.

Other items recovered include 1,079 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 886 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition, 139 rounds of 7.62mm tracer ammunition and Five empty AK-47 magazines.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai has commended the troops for their proactiveness in denying bandits a major supply of ammunition.

He also charged security forces to proceed with a thorough investigation of the arrested suspect, and intensify efforts towards dismantling gunrunning networks across Kaduna State and beyond.
