Senate Committee blames NNPC for current fuel scarcity

The Senate Committee on petroleum down stream sector has blamed the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and its subsidiaries for the current fuel crisis which still lingers in some parts of the country. 

Chairman of the committee, Senator Kabiru Marafa, said this while on an oversight function in some filling stations in Zamfara state.

TVC News Correspondent, Ibrahim Bello reports that while the fuel situation is easing out, some parts of the  country still remain in the grips of the crisis as the Senate committee on petroleum down stream sector, was to find out in their oversight visit to Zamfara state.

Members of the Committee  had their first stop over at Gusau NNPC depot, to ascertain its capacity in supplying petroleum products within the zone.

The committee engaged the Depot chief and his management team on the operations of the Depot, and also inspected the  Facilities and equipment in the depot.

The committee Chairman Senator Kabiru Marafa then Led the team to some filling stations in Gusau, Bungudu, Tsafe and kaura Namoda.

Most of the filling stations visited by the committee,  were selling the products above the government approved price.

Despite the anomaly , Men of the  security and civil defence corps were on ground at this filling station, assisting in maintaining order.

Senator marafa challenged the NNPC  to take responsibility for the current fuel crisis in the country and advised Nigerians to resist and buy fuel at government approved price of N145 (One hundred and forty five) naira per Litre.

The NNPC had told Nigerians that  they had supplies in excess of 80m (Eighty million) litres of the products to help cushion the effects, but this seems not to have impacted on the fuel situation across the country.

The committee was on an oversight inspection of filling stations across the country on the directives of the senate president.
