Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly say they have returned the sum of one hundred thousand naira paid to them as a Christmas bonus to the state government coffers.

In a statement, the House said the lawmakers rejected the funds on the grounds that public expenditures have not followed due process since Governor Siminalayi Fubara assumed office in 2023.

According to the statement, withdrawals have been made from the Consolidated Revenue Account of Rivers State without legislative approval, despite repeated warnings from the House, a Supreme Court judgment, and in defiance of the Constitution and the principle of separation of powers.

The Assembly warned all Rivers State Government staff connected to the alleged infractions to desist from such actions and pledged to continue performing its constitutional duties.
