Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has assured Nigerians that the current constitution amendment process will be handled with speed and seriousness.
Speaking in Abuja during the National Public Hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution, Abbas said the House is determined to succeed where past efforts have failed.
He praised Nigerians for their active participation, noting that their input is vital to ensuring that the constitutional review reflects the aspirations of the people.
According to him, the outcome of the process will influence every aspect of national life.
“As Speaker, I pledge that we will take your contributions seriously and consider the bills with diligence, fairness, and urgency,” he said.
Abbas also emphasized the importance of collaboration with other levels of government in achieving a successful review.

“We will engage the State Assemblies respectfully and transparently to secure their concurrence,” he added.
“We would continue to work with the executive and with you, the people, to ensure that the amendment process proceeds smoothly.”

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who chairs the House Committee on Constitutional Amendment, reaffirmed that the process will be inclusive and representative of all segments of society.
Also present at the event was the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, who represented President Bola Tinubu.
Akume commended the committee for fostering broad participation, bringing together citizens, civil society, political parties, professionals, and traditional leaders.
He reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to deepening democracy and supporting strong, responsive institutions.
