The Abia State Police Command has arrested four suspected drug peddlers and recovered suspected hard drugs and cannabis during an intelligence-led operation in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state.

The Command disclosed this in a statement on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka.

According to the statement, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) carried out the operation on July 16 following credible intelligence on the cultivation and sale of illicit drugs in the area.

The suspects were identified as David Chika Nwakamma, 50, of Amapuife in Osisioma LGA, Abia State; Stanley Moses, also known as “Rati Boy,” 33, of Njaba LGA, Imo State; Ibe Chisom, 29, of Mbaise LGA, Imo State; and Austin GodsWill, 27, also of Mbaise LGA, Imo State.

Police said all four suspects reside in Osisioma, where they were apprehended.

Items recovered from the suspects include quantities of substances suspected to be hard drugs packaged for distribution, freshly harvested cannabis and other suspected cannabis prepared for sale.

According to the statement, “Acting on credible and actionable intelligence regarding the cultivation and sale of illicit drugs in Osisioma, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit Headquarters, on 16/07/2026, apprehended the above-listed suspects… and recovered suspected hard drugs and freshly harvested cannabis, and suspected substances (cannabis) packaged for sale.”

The Command said investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities.

It reiterated its commitment to tackling crime and drug-related offences across the state.

“The Abia State Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring that there is no hiding place for criminals in the State,” the statement said.

The police also urged residents to support security efforts by reporting suspicious persons and activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines.
