The Oyo State Police Command has arrested an Islamic cleric, identified as Alfa Bashiru, for being in possession of a substance suspected to be human flesh.

This was confirmed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, in a statement posted on the Command’s verified X  handle.

According to Osifeso, officers from the Federal Highway Patrol unit intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Toll Gate area along the Ibadan Expressway.

The suspect was reportedly a passenger in the vehicle.

Upon questioning, Bashiru claimed he had purchased the substance in Lagos.

In a separate incident, officers of the Oyo State Command recovered an abandoned Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX during a routine stop-and-search operation.

According to Osifeso, the driver of the vehicle fled on foot after being flagged down by officers. The car has since been taken into custody.

“The Command urges anyone with legitimate ownership claims to come forward with verifiable documentation or contact the Police Command directly,” he said.

Osifeso emphasized that stop-and-search operations are a vital part of the Command’s efforts to uphold public safety and security across the state.

He reassured residents of the police’s ongoing commitment to combating crime and creating a safer environment for all.
