The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has dismissed claims linking him to an alleged plot to unseat Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, describing the report as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, the monarch said the allegation was unfounded and should be disregarded by the public.

“To say the least, this is a lie,” the statement quoted the Olubadan as saying, while stressing that a traditional ruler has no constitutional power to impeach an elected official.

Oba Ladoja noted that “one does not need to be a former governor or distinguished senator” to understand that a monarch lacks the authority to remove even a local government chairman, let alone a state governor.

The monarch also expressed concern over what he described as conflicting narratives in the political space, pointing out that barely 24 hours earlier, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, had alleged a plot by the Oyo State Government to remove the Olubadan.

“Now, it is the Olubadan who is allegedly planning to impeach the governor. So, who is fooling who?” the statement queried.

Oba Ladoja cautioned against dragging the revered Olubadan stool into partisan politics, emphasising the need to preserve the dignity and neutrality of the traditional institution.

He urged the public to disregard the rumours and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary tension in the state.
