The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has renewed its call for enhanced security collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure better protection for corps members and NYSC facilities across the country.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening existing security synergy.

According to a statement by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the Police has remained a critical partner in the successful implementation of NYSC programmes since inception, noting that sustained cooperation is essential to safeguarding corps members deployed across the country.

While congratulating the IGP on his appointment and the inauguration of his special team, Nafiu urged the Police to provide “maximum security of the Corps Members and NYSC officials within and outside the Orientation Camps.”

He also appealed for improved protection of corps members, their properties, and Corps Lodges nationwide, particularly as the country moves toward the 2027 general elections, a period he noted often requires heightened security vigilance.

The NYSC Director-General further raised administrative concerns regarding exemption certificates, citing provisions of the NYSC Act which exempts members of the armed forces and paramilitary agencies from national service.

He sought collaboration with the Nigeria Police Academy to enable the issuance of exemption certificates to its graduates in line with statutory requirements.

In his response, the Inspector-General of Police assured the NYSC of continued support, stating that the Force remains committed to the security of the scheme and its personnel.

He added that the addresses of all Corps Lodges are already in the custody of the Police for swift response whenever necessary, while welcoming the proposal on exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy.

The IGP further assured the NYSC leadership of strengthened cooperation between both institutions in the interest of national security and youth service protection.
