North East Governors To Build Power Plants In States

Governors of the northeastern states of Nigeria have committed to constructing a 60 MW Coal Power Plant or 50 MW Solar Power Plant in each State of the region through a partnership deal with Shanghai Electric.

This was part of the resolutions of the Northeast Governors’ Forum at the end of its 9th regional meeting which held in Yola the Adamawa State capital on Saturday.

They all acknowledge the federal government’s efforts at tackling the prevailing security challenges in the region, and commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agents for the recent successes.

The forum insists  the security situation is improving in the region and emphasised the need for more collaboration among north east states to eliminating all threats to security of their region.

Crucial issues were Deliberated in a closed door session of the north east Governors forum, At the end, a communique was issued.

Reading the communique on behalf of his colleagues Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State said the power plant would improve the poor electricity supply  in the region.

The Forum is also advocating for the inclusion of the north east States in the National railway transport plan.

The Forum also raised concerns about the poor road network within the region which they say has significantly  contributed to insecurity, and has slowed down socio-economic growth in the region.

The Forum also resolved  that Climate Change and Environmental degradation are still major issues affecting the subregion and agreed to strengthen  collaboration with all initiatives such as the Great Green Wall and the Global Initiative of Carbon Credit financing.
